World's Tallest Thing

This week, The Burj Dubai Tower still under construction in Dubai, reached 555 metres tall (yes, I'm being fancy by using metric), surpassing the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada as the world's tallest free standing structure.

This may seem noteworthy at first, but is it really? Is it that hard to build a really tall building anymore? For the past 5000 years, the human race has already proven itself in the area of building really tall or big things. Now that we've invented the internet, mapped the human genome, and created the pseudo-reality show The Hills, shouldn't we be trying to achieve something brand new? Building a super tall building to beat another country's tall building feels sooooo 1970's.

Also - to the people of Dubai: while your new building may be really long, it's girth that really matters to a woman.
